15 Iconic Final Shots Of Beloved Video Game Characters

2. The Lone Wanderer - Fallout 3

It's hard to make an memorable ending for a character you define yourself, but Fallout 3 managed it. Saving the world has a way of passing a person into legend. Having found a way to purify the water supply on earth and get rid of the radiation that had plagued humanity for over 200 years, the player is forced into a showdown with Colonel Autumn (either killing him or convincing him to give up, depending on your speech skill), but the chamber to activate the planet saving device is irradiated and a code needs to be entered to save the world. Walking into the radiation-drenched chamber, the player enters the code and purifies the world, at the cost of their life. The way the ending is put together in Fallout 3 is a masterstroke. Sepia bleached still images appear in a slideshow with narration explaining the effects your actions have had on the world. The slides change depending on who you have saved, who you have killed and what side quests you have completed but there are two that are always constant. One of the Lone Wanderer walking away from the camera into the wasteland and one, image of a framed picture of the Lone Wanderer as a child, with his father, resting in a dirty house on top of a table. Right in the feels.
