10. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Is Awesome For Fans, WTF For Everyone Else
Though we were initially skeptical about yet another Metal Gear Solid game, the quasi-demo that was Ground Zeroes quelled those fears instantly, with its silky smooth gameplay and beautiful graphics. With GZ, Hideo Kojima proved that he wasn't kidding around. And what we've seen of The Phantom Pain so far looks nothing short of fanastic: though distinctly different from the previous games, TPP feels like a natural evolution to the next level, offering players an unprecedented level of freedom to tackle the missions how they see fit. Sure, there's no David Hayter (apparently, anyway), and Kojima is allegedly deviating from the franchise's controversial, cut-scene-heavy approach, but given his near-impeccable track record, we expect TPP to be an eccentric, hilarious, emotionally resonant and altogether ridiculously fun outing. With a terrifying new villain (or is he?) in Skull Face and returning fan favourites such as Revolver Ocelot and, if our theory is correct, a young Liquid Snake, The Phantom Pain should be every bit the follow-up (and hopefully the conclusion) to the MGS mythos that fans have been longing for. And even if the game sucks, it allows you to attach balloons to animals and kidnap them to your base. What's not to like about that?
