15 Resurrected Video Game Franchises That Should Stay Dead

By Jack Pooley /

12. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater

The Originals: The immensely successful skating franchise began in 1999 and enjoyed critical and commercial favour until the late 2000s, where its popularity began to wane due to a general lack of innovative ideas. Its fate was sealed with the critically-panned Tony Hawk: Ride, which ill-advisedly introduced a terrible skateboard peripheral. The Resurrection: After 2012's HD anthology of the first three games was successful, developer Robomodo was commissioned to make a fifth game, which hits stores recently to a critical drubbing, scoring an embarrassing 33 on Metacritic for its lackluster gameplay and graphics. Why It Needs To Stay Dead: The THPS5 catastrophe pretty much makes it clear that Activision isn't really interested in bringing the series back to its roots: they wanted to churn out a cheap hit and failed. The game debuted at 11th place in the UK sales charts, so there's actually a pretty good chance it'll stay dead...at least for a while. Perhaps Tony Hawk can be lured over to the now-superior Skate series instead...
