14. Phase Zero

If you’re in the market for classic survival horror and you fell in love with the likes of Crow Country, then Phase Zero should be at the top of your wishlist.

Whilst it’s being published by Superhot, this is developer SPINA Studios' first outing and so far it’s an impressive showing. The demo that dropped in May of 2025 was all-around very warmly received, demonstrating the fundamentals and ending with a cliffhanger that teases what’s to come.

A classic fixed-camera, tank-controlled survival horror set in the fictional Flint Peak, players will battle zombies, solve puzzles and understand just what’s happened by reading world-building files. It’s pretty much Resident Evil with a delicious/disgusting sprinkling of The Thing lurking in its bowels.

Phase Zero emulates its inspirations so perfectly within minutes of the demo that when it does something that modern it’s easy to find yourself thinking “this is quite impressive for a PS1 title” before realising it is, of course, not that. But, it also uses the fact it’s NOT confined to being a throwback to keep the game moving and provide some striking cinematography.

The game doesn’t have a release date yet, but it’s anticipated to drop sometime this year.
