Max Payne 1 and 2 developer Remedy hold a special place in many a gamer's heart thanks to those two immensely cool games - hey, they did bullet time far better than The Matrix or any movie ever did - as well as nailing the brilliant Twin Peaks-esque weirdo-horror Alan Wake back in 2010. Wake didn't satisfy the gun-hounds that had amassed due to Max Payne's noir-styled voiceover and gangster-themed plot devices, and so Quantum Break sees Remedy take a more sci-fi bent with it's in-world time-stopping mechanics and overall narrative. Whatever happens it's a return to a twin-pistol-toting dudes in a black jackets delivering justice in slow motion, and that's a win regardless. In addition there's 'time grenades' you can throw out to slow guys down and allow you to traverse the battlefield if you're pinned down, leading to a great moment in a gameplay demo last year where you're free to Superman-punch them back into reality. This looks slick as hell, and with Remedy putting an unbelievable amount of effort into their games like none other - full seasons of TV shows in the Max Payne games, anyone? - this could be a universal return to form for the studio for any who thought they'd wavered.Which new franchises are you looking forward to, and how many did you know of already before you'd read through?
