20 Basic Video Game Skills That Are Secretly Broken
14. Standing Still - Red Dead Redemption 2
If you've ever encountered a bear in Red Dead Redemption 2, you know how tough and deadly these giant fur balls can be. Players try to develop plenty of different strategies to gain the upper hand in a fight with one, but in reality, you only need to master one simple skill—standing still.
Following the behavior of real-life bears, the grizzlies and other honey-loving giants in Red Dead Redemption 2 are actually programmed to avoid confrontation when you assertively stand still in front of them and show you’re not a threat.
When a bear in your area begins charging at you, if you just take your fingers off the controls and let it happen, the animal will stop its attack right before it’s about to lunge at you and then leave you be.
The art of doing nothing can be a lifesaver in a situation where you’re not prepared for a bear attack (so basically all the time), and once the critter has its back turned to you, you can use its moment of weakness to get a cheap shot in and then easily strip it of high-quality materials.
It’s a dick move, considering the bear was being merciful, but hey, so long as it works.
