Minecraft's importance to the video game industry simply can't be overstated. The best-selling video game of all time has spawned countless imitators, not to mention its own movie starring Hollywood A-listers Jack Black and Jason Momoa. The sandbox game sees players exploring a procedurally generated world, while mining for resources, crafting their own tools and structures, and fighting enemies. 

For many, this gameplay loop is enough to keep them locked in for hundreds of hours. However, Minecraft first and foremost demands that players use their own imagination and create their own experiences, and this is not every gamer's idea of a good time, especially when booting the title up for the very first time. It's like handing someone a box of LEGO pieces and telling them to go have fun. While some may thrive under those conditions, others will initially put the box down after haphazardly throwing a few bricks together and realising the arduousness of the task in hand. Of course, once these people remember how to use their imagination, that box of LEGO will get picked back up, and some amazing things will be built.

There will be many players who have tried Minecraft for the first time and quickly found themselves wandering round aimlessly with no idea what to do. While Minecraft's impact on the industry may be undeniable, some simply wouldn't have been initially excited by its concept whatsoever. Over time though, people have realized the value of being given the keys to their own virtual kingdoms, and some amazing things have been created within the world of Minecraft.
