20. Persona 5

Japanese role-playing games (RPG's), or their derivatives, are ten a penny now. The Final Fantasy series may hold the crown for overall standard, but that doesn't stop others from trying.

The Persona series, which originally started as a spin-off to the Shin Megami Tensei series, have gone on to surpass its origins in a breakout way. Whilst actually the sixth in the main numbered titles, Persona 5 is a great game for returning fans and newcomers alike.

It would take far too long to recap the story for you here, as well as spoil it, but suffice it to say it's a complete trip. High school shenanigans, supernatural universes, magical personas and everything bar the proverbial kitchen sink take place in the modern Tokyo-based Shujin academy and beyond.

A modern take on the classic turn-based battle systems RPG's are renowned for, the eclectic cast and anime-esque visuals are enough to turn heads, before you've even begun to scratch the surface.
