15. Captain's Death - Frostpunk 2

Frostpunk 2, the sequel to the winter apocalypse survival game, features a special endless scenario called Utopia Builder. The mode is an answer to the many fan demands for a proper endless mode, allowing you to keep expanding your city on a giant map while still providing engaging story content and mission events.

However, although Utopia Builder is advertised as an endless sandbox, it features one mind-boggling limitation that makes this statement very much false. After 2000 in-game weeks, the scenario can still end anyway, with a special event describing your character finally dying of old age.

When the message appears, the game forces you to quit to the main menu, and at this point you unlock the option to turn on true endless mode for future Utopia Builder runs. However, considering this means that your current “endless” save file has very much ended, the restriction feels outrageous.

Thankfully, there is a way to trick Frostpunk 2 into letting you continue your current run on true endless mode by enabling it in the options and then reloading your game to the day preceding the Captain’s death.

This said, if you don’t have access to such a save file, you’ve just lost a 2000-week-long run.
