4. Real Corpse - Half-Life

Widely praised by fans and critics, Half-Life 2 remains as popular today as it was when it first released in 2004. Alongside headcrabs and the gravity gun, another notable part of this acclaimed title is a texture of an immolated corpse that appears in various locations. Titled Corpse01.mdl, this unsettling character model has also featured in Garry's Mod alongside other Source Engine creations.

However, almost two decades after the game was released, fans made the shocking discovery that they'd been looking at an image of a real corpse all along. The find came when players noticed that images of a badly burned body from a medical textbook posted on Reddit were almost identical to what's in the game. Although the disturbing texture wasn't removed by developers, players can download a mod that replaces it with something more tasteful.

This isn't the only time a game has contained a real corpse. The notoriously awful Super Famicom title Hong Kong 97 gained infamy for using the image of a body as its game over screen. This graphic photo is believed to show an unidentified victim of the Bosnian war, taken from the Japanese film New Death File III.
