20 Gaming Facts That Will RUIN Your Favourite Franchise

20. The Original Ending - Assassin's Creed

Although the modern-day storyline in Assassin's Creed remains a point of contention amongst fans, it was nevertheless a pivotal part of the initial games. When players weren't exploring historical locations as fan-favourite characters, they'd take control of Desmond Miles as he joined the Assassins and used the Animus to find a way to stop an impending apocalypse.

Desmond's story came to an end in Assassin's Creed III when he sacrificed himself to save the world. However, the series could have ended very differently.

When the franchise was still conceptualised as a trilogy, the original plan was to conclude the third game with a grand showdown between Desmond and Abstergo in the present day. Original creator Patrice Désilets explained that Desmond and Lucy would then board a spaceship to start a new civilisation.

Although this ending was intended to tie the series' historical and sci-fi storylines together, revealing that the mysterious Isu were aliens all along would have been a massive cop-out that pushed the series into absurd territory.

The current modern-day plotline may have its faults and suffer from an identity crisis, but at least the series isn't dealing with literal aliens.
