20 MORE Video Game Bosses That Forced You To CHEAT
19. Penance - Final Fantasy X
Virtually every Final Fantasy game has an optional superboss that's tailored to challenge the best of the best.
However, Penance from Final Fantasy X feels less like a battle and more like a punishment (as its name implies). By this point, you would've maxed out your party, optimised their stats, and equipped the best possible weapons. In theory, you should be fully prepared to thrown down with anybody.
However, Penance has a whopping 12 million HP, so the most powerful moves barely make a dent. The godlike entity has numerous multi-target attacks, instant-kill moves, and the ability to drain MP to zero. Even with a near-perfect setup and execution, Penance can easily overwhelm experienced players due to its relentless and unforgiving tactics.
Luckily, players can skip the whole thing by summoning Yojimbo. If Yuna pays Yojimbo enough gil, the sword-for-hire will cleave Penance in two, killing him in one go. Though this showdown can drag on for over an hour if Penance is fought the traditional way, it'll be over and done with in 30 seconds flat with Yojimbo's assistance.
