2025 has been one hell of a year for great video games already, defined by the likes of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Split Fiction, Death Stranding 2, Donkey Kong Bananza, and Hollow Knight: Silksong, to name just a few.

But it's already resoundingly clear that 2026 isn't about to be humbled by this year's platter of amazing games - it looks set to at least match if not outright top it.

Even beyond The Big One that just about everyone and their mother will be playing come next May, the entire year is packed to the gills with fantastic-looking games from every genre, enough that we could easily fill out this list two or three times over.

And while the ever-tricky nature of games development means that a few of them could end up missing their 2026 release windows, the overwhelming majority of these games should make their dates and, more importantly, will hopefully live up to expectations.

From long-awaited franchise sequels to entirely new IP, these are by far the 20 most anticipated video games due to drop in 2026, and the ones you should absolutely keep your eyes on...

20. Resident Evil Requiem

Capcom's follow-up to Resident Evil Village will introduce players to a new protagonist, FBI agent Grace Ashcroft, the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft, who was a playable character in 2003's Resident Evil Outbreak.

Grace will investigate a host of deaths at Raccoon City's Wrenwood Hotel where her mother died years prior, and will find herself pursued by a relentless stalker monster not unlike Mr. X and Lady Dimitrescu from previous Resident Evil games.

The big gameplay change-up this time, however, is that players can freely swap between first and third-person perspectives, rather than being forced to play in first-person as in the two previous games.

There's still so much we don't know about Requiem, though the tease of being able to explore a post-apocalyptic Raccoon City and rumours about Leon Kennedy being a second playable character will certainly keep fans talking.

Considering how successfully the series has been revitalised since Resident Evil 7, it's easy to have full faith in Capcom here.
