15. Papo & Yo

The story of Papo & Yo concerns a young child named Quico who has run away from his abusive father. Quico enters an imaginary world that resembles the slums of his city, but it's one that has a dreamlike magical-realism quality to it. It€™s almost breathtaking to simply watch someone play Papo and manipulate the environment. And all of that€™s even before we get to the Monster, a friendly NPC who helps Quico out during his adventures. However, there are green frogs throughout the world that if the Monster eats, he turns into a raging beast that will hurt anything around him (including Quico). Papop & Yo might sound like some ham-fisted lecture about the collateral damage of alcohol abuse, but that€™s because €” like Journey €” written description will never do something like it justice. It€™s just one of those games you should experience. You€™ll have a reaction to it. It might be one of joy or disgust, but it€™ll be a memorable experience.
