20 Upcoming Video Games That Might Surprise You

20. Final Fantasy VII Revelation

Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII remake project has certainly been surprising in many ways - for one, the overall quality and scale has far surpassed what many expected, and the story has taken some interesting, also polarising divergences from the original.

And now it comes time for the publisher to stick the landing with Final Fantasy VII Revelation, where Square Enix will finally need to decide once and for all whether they're going to stay true to a certain character's fate or grant them a stay of execution.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's wishy-washy ending left fans in agonising suspense about which path the story will take, but don't be surprised if it ends up delivering a surprise third option fans hadn't even thought of.

While we know that Revelation will introduce new mechanics such as Cid's airship the Highwind, the ability to parachute onto the world map, and a new tactical suitwear system, it's fair to assume that there's also plenty more Square Enix will hold back until the game is in our hands.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation releases in spring 2027.
