20 Video Game Reveals That Shocked the World
12. Resident Evil 7
By 2016, the mainline Resident Evil series had been on ice for a few years following the frosty reception to 2012's Resident Evil 6, and though there were scattered rumours of Capcom working on a seventh game, nobody saw it coming quite like this.
At E3 2016, Capcom showed a gameplay trailer for an unnamed first-person survival horror game, and most surely assumed it was simply a brand new IP.
But the trailer climaxed by revealing itself to be Resident Evil 7, offering up a radical reinvention of the series' third-person, increasingly action-heavy gameplay.
With its apparent emphasis on gut-wrenching suspense, Resident Evil 7's trailer marked a clear return to the more anxious survival horror of the earlier games, and Capcom didn't make us wait an age for it, as the game released barely six months after this shock reveal.
Better yet, Resident Evil 7 released to rave reviews, many deeming it a welcome reinvention of the series and a major return to form following two divisive installments.
