20 Video Game Reveals That Shocked the World

13. Killzone 2

Few gaming reveals have ever stoked more contentious and prolonged discussion than the announce trailer for Killzone 2 at E3 2005.

The mesmerising trailer, an apparent mixture of in-engine cinematics and actual gameplay, was a mind-bogglingly photorealistic demonstration of the PS3's technical capabilities - or so we first thought.

It didn't take long, however, for both the press and gamers alike to smell a rat, with many coming to suspect that this trailer was simply too good to be true, that its flabbergastingly advanced visuals were too powerful for even cutting-edge gaming tech.

Though Sony initially claimed that the footage was indeed "real gameplay," several years later the trailer was finally confirmed to be what everyone suspected - a "target render" based on what Guerrilla Games thought would be possible on the PS3.

While the final game turned many heads, it wasn't quite on the level of that original trailer, but it also proved that video game marketing need only be so accurate as long as it got people talking.
