20 Video Game Reveals That Shocked the World

16. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

Though in 2005 it was known that Hideo Kojima was hard at work on a fourth entry into the Metal Gear Solid franchise, it wasn't until that year's Tokyo Game Show that he provided fans with some actual gameplay footage.

The lengthy trailer dropped one hell of a bombshell by revealing Solid Snake's majorly changed appearance, with his grey hair and more laboured movements causing him to resemble a man in his 60s or 70s.

Considering that Snake was in his mid-thirties in Metal Gear Solid 2, it immediately suggested a massive time-jump of decades, with the trailer itself claiming that the game took place "x years" later.

However, things became even more confusing when Snake's good pal Otacon appeared later and looked only a few years older than he did in the second game.

It was nothing if not a reveal that got fans talking, with it later being confirmed that Snake's ageing was accelerated due to him being a clone of Big Boss.
