20 Video Game Secret Areas You Only Have ONE Chance To Discover

5. El Dorado - Europa Universalis IV

Europa Universalis IV is a grand strategy set during the Golden Age of colonization, so obviously a lot of the game’s content has to do with exploring and settling the New World.

The game even includes the myths and legends that brought European explorers to the fifteenth-century Americas, like the Fountain of Youth or the golden city of El Dorado that you can actually visit, albeit only once per your campaign.

Given the realism of the Europa Universalis games, most players might think that the quests for the legendary locations that can trigger in the game are just pointless goose chases, but this is only half true.

While these quests usually result in your conquistadors coming back empty-handed and humiliated, there is a small hidden chance that the opposite will happen.

If you have done at least one quest in the Seven Cities of Gold Hunting events and then send your conquistador to one of the provinces marked by the mission, your explorer has a chance to find the famous El Dorado and reward you with a ton of prestige points and ducats.

The event can only be triggered once per game, however, so if you want to find this hidden city and get your rewards, you have to race for it with other exploring nations.
