20 Weirdest Licensed Video Games EVER

4. Akira Psychoball

Iconic. Revolutionary. Exhilarating. Those are some of the few words that could be used to describe Akira, one of the most important and influential anime films ever made and one of the reasons why the medium caught on so heavily in the West. With its cyber-punk setting, myriad of street gangs, disturbing body horror and lashings of telekinetic super soldiers the property is absolutely ripe for a video game adaptation.

And yet the one we eventually got was a pinball game...

It's certainly not uncommon for virtual pinball games to be based on licensed properties as it's a standard for pinball as a whole, but with so many possibilities for how an Akira game could pan out, why did they go down this route? The only real saving grace is that whilst you play you'll be treated to several small excerpts from the film.

But it ultimately begs the question of why you wouldn't just watch the film anyway?

Truly a wasted opportunity if there ever was one and fans of Akira will have to keep living in hopes that one day they'll get to properly roam the streets of Neo Tokyo, hunting down Tetsuo and riding those sweet, sweet motorbikes.
