In a markedly strange year for gaming - one that FIRED out the gates with everything from Elden Ring to Horizon Forbidden West, Pokemon Legends Arceus to OlliOlli World, Windjammers 2 and even the version of Cyberpunk we were supposed to get two years ago - the release calendar has been all over the place.

After that opening salvo we had nothing; very few head-turning titles that created conversation or made you actively excited for gaming overall. Then came Summer Game Fest.

Geoff Keighley's umbrella term for both his own live show and companion streams like Xbox & Bethesda, Devolver, Capcom and more brought with it MANY rays of hope. Callisto Protocol dropping this year, The Last of Us Part 1's full remake, indie gems like Season and the mighty Neon White out now or in the next few months.

It remains very much a "recovery year" for an industry that relies on so many moving parts to function, and while there are a TON of must-plays, so-to are there plenty of duds to avoid entirely.
