Terrified civilians relying on the help of a kind, warrior-like stranger moving around the world? Check. A devastated landscape left in tatters by a sudden and harrowing apocalypse? Check. Powerful but brainless enemies assaulting players at every turn, making survival a real fight or flight lottery? Pretty much... Like it or not, Fallout shares an awful lot in common with a series like Dead Island. While there is not likely to be much of a competition between the two when it comes to gamers' favoured choice, there is one thing that Dead Island definitely does better than any Fallout. The feeling of absolute terror players are faced with as hordes of zombies swarm them in Dead Island has never been replicated by Bethesda, despite many of its enemies actually being more dangerous. This is in large part due to the way the game lets players slow things down with the VATS system. While removing this altogether would be foolish, adding further limitations to it would force players to use it far more tactically, making the experience of trying to survive the wasteland feel more genuine and challenging than ever.
