Just think about it; the next big game you'll most likely be plumping down cash on is Fallout 4. At time of writing it's only 48 days away, and considering how Bethesda rolled it out after years of silence at E3 earlier this year, fan anticipation is through the roof. From a gorgeous new game engine to companion commands, thousands upon thousands of new lines of dialogue and a wasteland that actually looks genuinely inviting; it's set to be the first entry in the franchise that could truly cross over into mainstream appeal. About time too, as fans have long been shouting from the rooftops about how immersive and rewarding gallivanting across both Bethesda and Black Isle's respective game worlds can be (the former only took over development duties for the third game). In a way you could almost say it's one of gaming's most under-appreciated franchises, being it's rarely mentioned in the same circles as GTA, Call of Duty or even Skyrim - but all that should change considerably before the year is out. There's been plenty written about the biggest new features and gameplay innovations that make F4 feel like a huge step up already, but let's dig a little deeper, as if there's any developer to reward eagle-eyed gamers, it's Bethesda.
