And 5 Things We Want To Happen...

5. Emergent Gameplay

One of the most conspicuous things making Fallout 3 seem decidedly older then games like Skyrim and even GTA IV is the lack of emergent gameplay. That is to say, you have to purposely go to a specific location in order to progress within the game€™s narrative. Things won€™t unravel organically €“ you have to move them along yourself. This is 2014 and elementary gameplay components like this don€™t cut the mustard any more. It just lacks subtlety. We€™ve already seen that Bethesda understand how beneficial it is to include emergent gameplay elements, typified by their incredible employment of dragons in the critically acclaimed Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. While roaming the vast expanses of northern Tamriel the player will randomly encounter hostile dragons which they are obviously forced to react to. The game€™s world acting in this organic way means that each and every gamer will have a completely different experience and so will feel like they€™re in a living, breathing world.
