Far Cry 5 Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs

10. Downs - Hunting Is Much Less Important

Hunting was one of the most unique and most important gameplay features in previous Far Cry games but in Far Cry 5 it's simply something you can do if you feel like it.

Although some may view the fact that hunting is now much more optional as a good thing, Far Cry fans won't see it that way. Far Cry has always been at it's absolute best when it's making you survive and hunting was the perfect amalgamation of this.

The lack of true hunting mechanics is also a shame when the animals of Far Cry 5 are so greatly varied. Everything from bears to moose are included in Hope County and they're all great to encounter.

Of course, players can always choose to hunt animals if they really want to but Far Cry 5 doesn't really encourage or reward it with anything other than money. Past Far Cry games have made hunting essential and rewarded the player with important upgrades so anything else feels like a downgrade.
