Mortal Kombat: 10 Crazy Things You Didn’t Know

10. Kano Has Ties To The Terminator & Indiana Jones

The Mortal Kombat series is so filled with iconic villains that it's bursting at the seams. Still, even within this dense roster of baddies, the dreaded Kano stands out. But did you know this menace has a touch of the silver screen about him?

This dastardly villain's design is a big part of his identity, but it was originally going to be much plainer. His iconic metal plate with a glowing red eye was intended to be a simple eyepatch. However, the design was changed to look like Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Terminator. That's right, it's not a coincidence.

This isn't the only example of movie magic playing into Kano.

One of his (and the franchise's) most famous fatalities shows him digging his hand into his opponent's chest and ripping out their heart. This sickening image is memorable, but it's not entirely original, as it was directly inspired by the Kali Ma sacrifice scene in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. The original actor behind Kano - Richard Divizio - was allegedly responsible for this, as he was a big fan of the movies.

It seems Johnny Cage isn't the only Hollywood-inspired fighter in MK.
