Mortal Kombat X Trailer: 6 Things You Need To Know

5. The Environment Plays A Part

Mortal Kombat's arenas have largely been static environments for two pugilists to throw each other around in. In MK9 NetherRealm did bring in a few interactive environments but they largely consisted of the odd window or wall you could hurl your opponent through. For MK X, it would appear that things have been taken much further and now the environment can be used to your advantage. Sub Zero makes use of the environment several times in the trailer, the first being when he is knocked up against a tree, he gets up and tears a low branch from it, which he then freezes and uses as a club across Scorpion's head, treating us to a wonderful slow-motion shot of the ice shattering everywhere. The next such moment happens after Sub Zero has his knee broken (more on that later), he kicks Scorpion back and jumps up, spinning around on a branch to hurls himself towards Scorpion's jaw, heel first. The last environmental moment of note is immediately after Sub Zero has kicked Scorpion across the battlefield, he crouches down and draws a sword out of the ground which he then uses to attack his yellow enemy before being promptly disarmed. This is the most interesting of the three, is the sword part of this level? Will there be weapons scattered around different arenas? Or does Sub-Zero come with it, depending on the icy environment surrounding him? We'll have to wait to find out.
