Shadow of the Colossus was a ground-breaking and unusual game in the action-adventure genre. It saw you play the character of Wander and his quest to revive his fallen maiden, Mono. The game sees Wander having to fight 16 Colossi so that a mysterious entity - known as Dormin - can revive Mono back to life. With an ancient sword in hand, Wander heads into the unknown to slay the giant beasts. Handily, you have a willing partner to help you find the Colossal beings, your horse Argo. The game is excellently made with excellent world mapping, creature creation and a gripping storyline from beginning to end. It has a somewhat sad ending, which I won't spoil if you haven't played the game (I'm not that cruel), but it's brilliant in the way that it plays around with the conventions of "hero" and "villain."
