Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Review: 5 Ups & 3 Downs
Both ultimate and unfortunate.
If you own a Nintendo Switch or have a close friend who does, there's a strong chance you've spent a good amount of the last few days playing the hugely anticipated Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Effectively the last major AAA release of 2018, Ultimate is a hot-ticket holiday item and a major boost for the Switch, which on the whole has had a disappointingly quiet 2018.
The brawler's current 93 Metascore makes it the fourth best-reviewed video game of 2018 to date, and while it absolutely is a game well worth owning, it's also not without its head-scratching issues.
Granted, the majority of the mainstream reviews went live before the new Smash could be tested in a live environment, but the rough online functionality is just one puzzling design misstep in a game which, given its pedigree, probably should've tried a little harder in some key areas.
