Mere weeks after Capcom's acclaimed remake of Resident Evil 2 was released, a mod was created which allowed players to play the entire third-person game from a first-person perspective, effectively emulating the style of Resident Evil 7.

And the result is totally transformative - Resident Evil 2 is already an incredible game, but the first-person perspective just makes its most pulse-pounding moments that much more intense.

Facing off against Mr. X, for instance, is totally nerve-shredding in first-person, and some devilishly clever folk have even gone one step further and gotten the mod working for VR headsets.

It's frankly staggering how well the base game translates to a different perspective, and it's not a leap to suggest that mods like this gave Capcom the impetus to allow players to switch between first and third-person perspectives in the recently released Resident Evil Requiem.

Once you subject yourself to the immersive terror of Resident Evil 2 in first-person, it's tough to swap back to the comparative safety of third-person.
