8 Most Insane Instances Of Video Game Plot Armour

3. Squall's Impalement Is A Mere Scratch - Final Fantasy VIII

The survival of Final Fantasy VIII's protagonist Squall Leonhart is so downright improbable that it even birthed a widely-held fan theory that most of the game is actually his dying dream.

At the end of disc one, Squall is impaled by a friggin' gigantic shard of ice cast by the sorceress Edea - a shard that should reasonably be enough to finish anyone off.

But disc two sees Squall treat it with little more concern than a skinned knee before moving on like it never happened, and ever since the game's release fans have questioned his speedy recovery.

Again, some take it as "evidence" that Squall actually dies at the end of disc one, with the rest of the game's events simply being his brain firing neurons to try and make sense of his impending demise.

The theory even has its own website, squallsdead.com, and picked up enough traction that Final Fantasy VIII director Yoshinori Kitase even heard about it.

He ultimately debunked the theory and assured players that Squall was stabbed in the shoulder rather than the heart, but all the same, a wound that massive would probably cause you to bleed out in seconds. No dice.
