8 Terrible Games That Didn't DESERVE Sequels
8. Hello Neighbor
Hello Neighbor is proof perfect that a quality end product is no match for a game's viral potential.
This stealth horror game, in which players attempt to sneak into their strange neighbour's basement, was widely panned on release for basically everything that wasn't the story and characters.
For all its promises of intelligent, dynamic AI, Hello Neighbor was a pure slog to play, its unremarkable puzzles and generic stealth gameplay conspiring with an abundance of bugs to sabotage any lingering promise.
Yet the viral marketing propelled it to massive sales success regardless, leading to a number of spin-off titles before Hello Neighbor 2 was finally released in 2022.
While the sequel received better reviews for its somewhat more robust gameplay, it was still an agonisingly mid experience to behold.
And yet, continually boosted by its popularity with streamers, the franchise continues to flourish commercially, with Hello Neighbor 3 currently in the works.
