8 Terrible Games That Didn't DESERVE Sequels

7. Red Steel

Red Steel was one of the launch titles for the Nintendo Wii - a first-person shooter intended to showcase the console's innovative motion controls.

But like so many launch games, Red Steel feels less fully-formed than an awkward proof-of-concept, and one that categorically fails to make a compelling argument for its focal feature.

Even if you can forgive the thunderously generic crime story and characters, Red Steel's motion controls were woefully clunky and unresponsive, ensuring that both gunplay and swordfights failed to rouse the advertised excitement.

Yet the game was still a commercial success on the apparent strength of its gimmick, enough that Red Steel 2 arrived four years later in 2010.

And fair's fair - Ubisoft Paris took most of the vocal complaints about the original onboard, with the Wii's MotionPlus accessory ensuring the motion control combat was decidedly more intuitive this time around.

Basically, Red Steel 2 is what Red Steel 1 should've been.

The irony, however, is that many players were seemingly burned by the original game, as Red Steel 2 proved a sales disappointment, causing Ubisoft to cancel tentative plans for a third title.
