7. Dante - Devil May Cry 4

The protagonist of the Devil May Cry franchise is, of course, Dante, but in the fourth game, players spend the bulk of the story playing as Dante's nephew Nero, with Dante only being playable in a few later missions.

Nero is initially tasked with taking down Dante, believing him to be an enemy after witnessing him killing Sanctus, the leader of the Order of the Sword, leading to an epic boss fight between the two in the game's tenth chapter.

The real giddy treat of this boss fight is that, after spending three games playing as Dante, we now get to witness him unleash fresh hell upon us, using every ability he's mastered from the trilogy in what's far and away the game's hardest boss battle.

Dante seems to have an answer for just about everything we send his way, allowing us all to feel a little more sympathy for the many bosses we've felled as Dante in the previous games.
