10 Horror Movie Sequels You Probably Didn't Know Existed
9. The Craft: Legacy
While the temptation of exploiting nostalgia through a legacy sequel is too much for most movie studios to ever resist, there are some that are as on the nose as to literally just subtitle the sequel, Legacy. This is what The Craft: Legacy did, as it released to tumbleweeds.
The original, a supernatural flick from 1996 that saw four friends dealing with the occult, brought in $24 million worldwide, and has become something of a beloved cult classic in the years that followed. The same could not be said about the sequel that came 24 years later, largely because nobody went to see it.
Of course, the film industry had its struggles as did the rest of the world through 2020, with The Craft: Legacy foregoing a theatrical release initially in favour of a straight-to-home-video release. A necessity of the times, really, but it certainly did not help the movie.
When it did ultimately see a release across cinemas, The Craft: Legacy brought in less than $2 million against a budget of $18 million. No, a film doesn't need a big audience to become a cult classic, but it does need someone to see it.
