10 Most Surprising Deaths in Horror Movies

3. Charlie Graham - Hereditary

Ari Aster's Hereditary is an uncompromising nightmare of a film, and the fact that it's willing to get its hands bloodied with the death of a kid within the first 30 minutes says that better than any tagline ever could.

Charlie is a strange but sympathetic youngster caught up in a horrifying supernatural conspiracy. Unlike the typical creepy child archetype in horror, you can feel yourself pitying Charlie, even when she behaves in unsettling ways.

Sadly, the movie's slow build is kicked up to 100 after Charlie accidentally eats walnuts, triggering her severe nut allergy. Her brother, Peter, drives her to a hospital at breakneck speed, but in the process of getting her there, she sticks her head out of the window and is brutally decapitated by a telephone pole.

This moment is so out of left field, as Hereditary lures you into thinking that Charlie's anaphylactic shock is the biggest problem she's facing, before switching gears. Aster then makes the moment even worse by showing you Charlie's head lying by the side of the road.
