10 Most Vile Villains From Recent Horror Movies

10. Deadite Ellie - Evil Dead Rise

Poor Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland) already has enough to deal with. A single mother of three children after her husband walked out on them and about to be evicted from their condemned apartment building, what she really doesn't need is for one of her kids - Danny (Morgan Davies), Bridget (Gabrielle Echols) and Kassie (Nell Fisher) - to unwittingly unleash a demonic force that ends up possessing her. Oh, Danny Boy, it's called The Book of the Dead for a reason.

From there, it's the frenetic and unrelenting havoc of horror we know and love from an Evil Dead film.

The possession of Ellie in the elevator is a violently bone-breaking, blood-dripping event. Once possessed, Deadite Ellie maims, mutilates, and manipulates her way through family and neighbours whilst bearing the series' humorous hallmarks; after ravenously removing someone's eyeball with her mouth, she spits it back out towards another person's open mouth, who then proceeds to choke to death. Ellie's relentlessness is commendable, even after having one of her legs and an arm blown off by her sister Beth (Lily Sullivan). She can also make a hell of an omelette with all the eggshells you desire.

Sutherland's phenomenal physicality, fierce and fiery facial expressions, combined with her sinister smile and chilling cackle, make Deadite Ellie one of the all-time great Evil Dead characters. Poor Ellie, if only she'd heeded her own advice and not taken the elevator after an earthquake in the first place.

As we're here, just an honourable mention to Deadite Bridget for making eating a wine glass look evilly elegant.
