10 Wild Horror Movie Weapons That Made You Squirm

Striking fear into audiences with more than just a chopping knife.

With horror movies being around for literally over a century, audiences have become desensitised to a lot of what happens on screen. Imagine going back even a fraction of that time, and showing that audience the kind of gore-fests we're regularly treated to these days. Minds would be blown.

That doesn't mean however, that there aren't certain moments that still have the ability to truly shock the masses. They may be fewer and further between, particularly as the genre has grown and expanded, but it can happen.

Films in general, particular scenes, and even characters on the whole can take an audience's collective breath away, as can certain weapons. An array of blades are expected at this point, as are guns and chainsaws. They haven't lost their effect per se, but to truly rock a viewer to their core, particularly a hardened horror afficionado, filmmakers have to get a little more creative.

The likes of sledgehammers and mallets, ordinary and otherwise innocent household items, wall decorations, and even old music have gone beyond the expected and made for truly uncomfortable and tough to watch scenes.

10. The Stove - Scream (2022)

When the Scream franchise was reinvigorated in 2022 with a new outing for the first time in 11 years, it was a bit of a mixed bag. Moving the story away from Neve Campbell's Sidney Prescott was an intriguing decision, and while Jack Quaid put in a strong performance as Richie, it was rather obvious from the start that he was a killer.

However, there were also some great moments throughout that allowed it to improve upon the previous two entries, one such being the death of Richie's Ghostface co-pilot, Amber.

Mikey Madison's character found herself in a scrap with both Sidney and Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox), before the hob was inadvertently lit, and she was shot by the latter. The momentum took Amber onto the open flame, and in the next moment, she was covered head to toe in fire, shrieking as she was burned alive.

Arguably not a weapon in the traditional sense, as it was more of an accident than anything, but still, seeing Amber writhing in agony after being set alight by the stove was horrifying. There is something so unsettling about innocent household items delivering painful deaths, though it's arguably worse that she wasn't killed by this, as she had to endure the agony for a little while longer.
