10 Worst Horror Movies Of 2026 (So Far)

10. Lee Cronin's The Mummy

Even in spite of the bad taste left by Tom Cruise's attempt at The Mummy, there was still a certain amount of excitement around Lee Cronin's version. Fresh off Evil Dead Rise, it seemed that bringing the Mummy fully into the world of horror could work.

Unfortunately, the outing couldn't live up to what was expected. Though arguably an improvement on what was meant to kick off the Dark Universe in 2017, there wasn't a huge amount of horror, and even less of the titular monster.

Sometimes, a little mystery and ambiguity can be a good thing, and there were some creepy moments for sure, but Lee Cronin's The Mummy ultimately devolved into a routine and rather surprisingly generic possession story.

Brendan Fraser has been vocal on the success of Stephen Sommers' Mummy franchise, largely putting other attempts' failures down to a lack of fun. Maybe the man was right, and that despite what would seem a potentially great fit, The Mummy belongs in the world of bombastic adventure and popcorn.

Should the upcoming fourth in Sommers' franchise - including Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz back as Rick O'Connell and Evelyn Carnahan - see success, it could spell the end for any other ill-advised darker takes on the Mummy property.
