20 Awesome Horror Movies With No Sequels
3. The Wailing
The Wailing is one of the most distinctive and unforgettable horror films of the past decade - an intoxicating and materially strange supernatural horror from South Korea, and one which categorically confirmed Na Hong-jin to be a master filmmaker.
In addition to scoring rave reviews, The Wailing was also a massive commercial hit, grossing more than $50 million against a tiny $8 million budget.
While this naturally prompted Hollywood to explore a remake which hasn't yet come to fruition, many fans of the first film would much rather see some sort of sequel - whether a direct continuation or spiritual successor.
But Na Hong-jin seems to have firmly moved on, with his long-awaited follow-up - sci-fi action-thriller Hope - recently premiering at the Cannes Film Festival to positive reviews.
Ultimately why railroad a supremely talented filmmaker into the franchise track when he's clearly got the vision to produce other compelling stories?
