Event Horizon may be far from perfect, but it's nevertheless one of the most atmospheric and unforgettable sci-fi horror films of the 1990s, and proof of what Paul W.S. Anderson is capable of when working with a solid script.

Though the survivors are rescued at film's end, that doesn't change the fact there's still a nightmarish Hell dimension out there for other spaceships to potentially stumble upon.

The reason we've never had Event Horizon 2 is easy, though - Anderson's original film was a sizable box office flop following a tough production, where Anderson regularly bristled up against an anxious studio.

Though the film has been a continually strong seller on home video and Anderson has expressed enthusiasm for a sequel, it still hasn't happened almost 30 years on. 

Big-budget sci-fi horror not called Alien is quite a tough pitch to mainstream audiences, after all.

The best fans can hope for is the recently announced sequel comic Event Horizon: Inferno, which takes place 200 years after the film and follows a billionaire who attempts to salvage the remains of the Event Horizon. It's something?
