20 Awesome Horror Movies With No Sequels

15. Lake Mungo

Lake Mungo is one of the downright scariest horror films of the 21st century so far - an intoxicatingly atmospheric mockumentary that packs one of the single most bone-chilling moments in any horror movie, well, ever.

And while the central grief-stricken story is more-or-less tied off by film's end, the storytelling structure lends itself to any number of sequels in a similar vein, exploring more paranormal phenomena through a seemingly plausible faux-doc lens.

But rather than go the Paranormal Activity route, Lake Mungo has remained a one-off curio, and somewhat more perplexingly, filmmaker Joel Anderson hasn't directed anything since - not even a short.

Anderson's sole substantial credit in the 18 years since Lake Mungo's release is as an executive producer on 2023's Late Night with the Devil.

Considering that Lake Mungo's cult fandom has only grown in recent years, there's clearly an audience out there for some sort of successor, even if only a spiritual one, but with Anderson seemingly out of the game, it seems incredibly unlikely to ever happen.
