20 Awesome Horror Movies With No Sequels
14. The Mist
The Mist isn't mentioned nearly enough in discussions of best Stephen King adaptations, no matter that even King himself attests that the ending to Frank Darabont's masterfully bleak sci-fi horror is one he wished he came up with.
The Mist may have performed fairly modestly on original release, but it's endured over the last two decades as a sure-fire cult classic, largely thanks to the performances of its cast, Darabont's ultra-atmospheric direction and, yes, that ending.
But that bummer ending might also be the reason that nobody ever attempted to mount a sequel, even though there's clear runway for a Mist 2 focused on humanity continuing to repel the alien invasion.
Then again, we probably would've just spent the entire movie wondering what the hell happened to Thomas Jane's original protagonist, considering how we left him at the end of the first film.
Though we never got that sequel, it was recently announced that Mike Flanagan is mounting his own adaptation of King's novella.
