20 Horror Films Where The Hero Teams Up With The Villain
5. Saw 3D
Flawed heroes and deplorable criminals have been forced to team up time and time again across the Saw saga. Having said that, Saw 3D probably has the best example, since the alliance in question loops back to where it all began.
The original Saw concluded with Dr. Gordon hacking off his foot to free himself from Jigsaw's trap. The character didn't feature in the next few sequels, giving the impression he bled out soon after, but the mysterious oncologist's true fate was determined in Saw 3D.
By this point, Jigsaw had died and his legacy had been hijacked by his apprentice, Mark Hoffman. Although Jigsaw's games were supposed to teach a lesson to the unappreciative, Hoffman ditches this philosophy and simply murders his enemies.
However, Jigsaw planned a contingency before his own death in case Hoffman went rogue.
In Saw 3D's final moments, Hoffman is drugged and imprisoned by Jigsaw's other apprentice, who happens to be Dr. Gordon. It's then revealed Gordon embraced Jigsaw's worldview after the events of the first Saw and joined the elusive killer.
Seeing the two on the same side is wild, but it's satisfying to watch Gordon use his master's philosophy to bring down a greater foe.
