3. The Last Broadcast

Cult classic found footage film The Last Broadcast admittedly concludes with a highly divisive twist ending in which the director of the central mockumentary, David (David Beard), is revealed to have committed the mysterious Pine Barrens murders he was allegedly investigating.

And to make matters worse he also kills a lab tech who discovers the truth at the end of the film, and after disposing of her body continues to work on the next segment of his doc.

As absurd an ending as it is, it's chilling to consider precisely what David's endgame is here - to complete and release a documentary about the killings all while knowing that, of course, he was the killer himself.

And where would David even go from here? Making a "sequel" where he kills another group of people and builds another doc out of it?

With true crime documentaries being among the most popular media on streaming right now, it's a deeply eerie, almost believable idea - of content creators drumming up work for themselves by committing the actual killings.
