4. Life - Calvin's Escape

In the context of horror films released in the last ten years, Life is perhaps the most epitomizing example of a horror movie that gets remembered for just one scene. That is its ridiculously bleak, brutal ending, in which a plan to send a deadly alien into deep space goes horrendously wrong. 

After Calvin, a malevolent Martian, has killed nearly everyone on a space station, only Dr David Jordan (Jake Gyllenhaal) and Dr Miranda North (Rebecca Ferguson) are left alive. They come up with what was actually a smart plan: David will lure Calvin into an escape pod and, sacrificing himself, fly into deep space while Miranda will return to Earth to warn everyone about Calvin. 

Unfortunately, the dastardly alien manages to knock the escape pods off-course and David's lands on Earth, while Miranda is sent hurtlingly helplessly into deep space. Most probably saw this coming, but the reveal of Calvin's escape pod on earth was still a massive stomach-drop moment, and Miranda's anguished screams of terror as she was sent to her death are hard to forget. 

This was ballsy stuff indeed from an otherwise so-so Alien knock-off that would've been forgotten long ago without this undeniably shocking ending. Aside from this, there's not much else to remember.
