20 Upcoming Horror Movies That Could Save Franchises

11. Insidious: The Bleeding World

There are few modern horror franchises that feel more creatively played out than Insidious, which, despite its ongoing commercial success, hasn't produced a particularly memorable installment since the 2011 original.

It might seem tough to expect much from the impending sixth film, then, but Insidious: The Bleeding World does have two major things going for it.

First and foremost, the fantastic Lin Shaye will return to the franchise as iconic medium Elise Rainier in what's said to be a lead role, after she disappointingly made only a brief cameo in the previous picture, Insidious: The Red Door. But it's ultimately the premise that differentiates this new film from its predecessors, as the sequel will revolve around a trio of stalkers who break into a family's suburban home and force them into the astral plane, where they discover that the dark dimension known as The Further is bleeding into our own reality.

That's certainly a step above the rather ambition-devoid storytelling of your typical Insidious sequel, and if it delivers on the obvious potential of its bonkers premise, it'll surely be the most inspired installment since the original.
