20 Upcoming Horror Movies That Could Save Franchises

6. The Purge 6

Though The Purge was one of the most successful horror franchises of the 2010s, it promptly ground to a halt after 2021's fifth film, The Forever Purge, was the series' lowest-grossing entry to date.

For many, the frustration with the later Purge movies is that they moved away from Frank Grillo's Leo Barnes, the grizzled protagonist of the second and third films, and who was entirely absent from the last two. But back in 2021, franchise creator James DeMonaco confirmed he was writing a sixth feature that would once again center around Barnes, while also focusing on the Purge spreading worldwide.

Getting Grillo back and expanding the scope of the franchise sounds like a double-win, and if that's not enough, DeMonaco will also return to the director's chair for the first time since the third film, The Purge: Election Year.

It's likely no coincidence that the series' quality began to decline when DeMonaco stopped directing, and in the very least, The Purge 6 will hopefully give fans closure on Barnes' story.
