10 Amazing Albums That Will Make You Love Pop Punk Music
2. Enema of the State - Blink 182
Around the turn of the millennium, pop punk was still starting to gets its sea legs. Though the more radio friendly acts like Weezer had opened the door for the more tuneful side of rock and roll, there weren't too many bands populating the scene just yet. The first shots had already been made, but it took Enema of the State to really send the whole genre over the top.
Right after acquiring Travis Barker behind the kit, Blink-182 were a musical force to be reckoned with, coming up with songs that were practically pop punk nursery rhymes like the sound of What's My Age Again and All the Small Things. Beyond just the catchy singles, this was one of the first pop punk albums that had a lot more heart behind it, especially on Adam's Song when you hear Mark Hoppus talk about dealing with depression and always trying to look forward to what tomorrow has to bring.
Then again, this is still a pop punk album, and that immature style is still here in spades, from Tom DeLonge talking about the toilet habits of an ex's lover on Dysentery Gary or trying to keep a long distance relationship fresh on Going Away to College. No one might have liked them when they were 23, but in between the riffs in these songs is the fountain of youth.
