10 Amazing Classic Rock Inspired Albums From The 21st Century
2. The Black Parade - My Chemical Romance
For any fan of punk rock in the early 2000's, My Chemical Romance was definitely a band to be paying attention to. After their hardcore beginnings on the post hardcore scene, the band made their first big strides with Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, which established them as the next big band in the rock spectrum. Though the band could have easily hunkered down and made a punk thrasher to follow it up, Gerard Way wanted to aim even higher.
Instead of resting on their laurels, the band pulled out all the stops for their next album revolving around a dying cancer patient. While the guitars were still distorted, the whole attack of the music was incredibly arranged, with the band taking on a sound that felt like the punk rock version of Queen. The band themselves have even admitted to watching hours upon hours of footage on the making of Queen's records in order to get the kinds of sounds they were looking for.
Once the band left the studio, they had created one of the greatest albums of the decade whose influence can still be heard in today's bands. While many bands would play it safe once they reach their first success, The Black Parade shows what can happen when you take that artistic gamble and win it.
